GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra

[COLOR=“Black”]Spoilers below

So I saw it yesterday and I thought it was quite good. They managed to pack a lot of storyline, flashbacks, and action into the movie. It was a “fun ride” if you will.

They picked a good cast imo. I was a bit hesitant about Marlon Wayans playing RipCord, but his character brought a good amount of humor to the movie which was cool. I was thrilled to see Arnold Vosloo play Zartan, as I think he plays a great bad guy.

I think one of the best things about the movie was that all of the vehicles were super over the top, something GIJOE has always been known for. I figured out who Cobra commander was pretty early on, and that part I was a bit sorta of “whatever” about, the way he comes about becoming Cobra commander, but it’s “ok”.

My only complaint is I wish they would have let Sienna Miller (The Baroness) use a Russian type accent. I think it would have worked better then an American accent for her character.

All an all a good movie and I am glad that they more then set it up for a part two.

I liked it too, they didn’t stick to the cartoon storylines very much but Transformers softened that blow for me. The action scenes were very cool, I thought Cobra Commander and Destro becoming who they were would have been cooler about an hour earlier in the movie though. On the females, I’m normally I red-heads fan and the Scarlett was ok but Sienna Miller as Baroness really worked for me, even if she was nothing like the show character. But I’m really not sure how she is supposed to be a Joe now.

Predictibly Snake eyes and storm shadow stole the show for me - just as I hoped they would. I was frightened that these two characters would be downplayed in the movie but I just LOVED the way they formed a pivitol role in the movie. I just hope that strom shadow somehow survives and helps break out destro and the commander from their high security prison - what an opening to the second movie that would be!

There is no way Storm Shadow is dead, messed up for sure but they never showed his body. He will probably have to be hooded all the time now like Destro and Cobra Commander which will be right. Now Baroness as a Joe…I’m not sure if that’s going to work.
On a side note, did i just buy 3 Constructicons from you? :cool:

Yeah Storm Shadow has to be alive. The Baroness as a Joe is not going to last very long IMO. Also, at the very end of the movie when you see the President in his office, I am betting that is Zarton in disguise, there is no other reason to have shown that scene.

Yeah the President is Zartan and Cobra probably has the real one hostage still for all the information. They referenced that when Destro told Duke that the world would turn to the most powerful man in the world when catastrophe hit, and he asked if that meant him but Destro (McCullen or something until then I forget) said he didn’t want to ruin the surprise. When the President went in the bunker they didn’t show who he was there with but he said “Is that what all this was about?” and Zartan did that crazy surgery right before. I guess trying to not have supernatural powers in the movie that is as close to shape bending as they could get, and I’m sure something cool is planned for the opening part of the next movie on getting the Cobra leaders out and about, maybe even involving Baroness getting them out.

There wasn’t much of a deep story in G I Joe… but the non stop cool action sequences made the movie a enjoyable experience. Good bunch of characters with decent back story. I was skeptical about the accelerator suits, since it would end up making every Joe member a common soldier/machine hybrid type of character, but it worked for the Paris storyline. One of the things I enjoyed about the series as a kid was that every Joe member had his own special skills, weapons and costume. But I guess for the movie a more common team look was needed, hence the black costumes.

Oh and it was cool to see Hasbro’s logo during the opening credits, did that appear before Transformers 2? maybe I missed it.

Nerduo presents: The Battle — T-Shirt

And I love this t-shirt design :cool: .

And I usually don’t do this in theatres, but the instant Snake Eyes made his debut.. I cheered and whooted loudly in the theatre. The few other times I had done that was during some of the Marvel movies, especially when the Marvel logo appears. I remember me and my friend doing this first when the Marvel logo appeared during the first Spider-Man movie :slight_smile: .
